Recognizing Achievements!
Every year Goodwill recognizes extraordinary graduates,
volunteers, employees and community and business partners
at our Annual Awards Luncheon. Below are the inspiring
stories from the 2006 winners.
Community Partner
of the Year
New Castle County Vo-Tech School - Adult Education
Division
“The mission of Goodwill is fulfilled every
day through our partnership with New Castle County
Vo-Tech,” remarked Regina Jones, Goodwill Director
of Career Services.
New Castle County Vocational Technical School Adult
Education Division offers a wide range of programs
to members of the community including a General Educational
Development (GED) high school equivalency program.
The partnership between Goodwill Industries and New
Castle County Vo-Tech began in September 2006 when
New Castle County Vo-Tech was in search of a home
for their GED preparation class.
“I have to give credit for the introduction
to the Delaware Workforce Investment Board,”
commented Kathy Baker, Coordinator for New Castle
County Vo-Tech’s Adult Education Division. “We
were scheduled to hold classes at the Delaware Department
of Labor Building when a last-minute glitch left us
without a location. That’s when Gwen Jones,
the Board’s Executive Director, suggested Goodwill.”
“Colleen Morrone and Regina Jones responded
immediately,” recalls Kathy. “Goodwill
welcomed us from the very first and worked with us
to make sure we had what we needed to move forward
without delay.”
Since then, New Castle County Vo-Tech has afforded
adult students, including Goodwill employees, the
opportunity to attend onsite GED preparation classes.
“It really is a successful partnership,”
observed Kathy. “Goodwill refers potential students
to the New Castle County Vo-Tech GED program - and
students in turn become aware of the vocational training
and job placement assistance available to them through
Goodwill.”
Goodwill’s organizational commitment to family-strengthening
embraces the philosophy that stable employment creates
stability in the home, moves families towards achieving
self-sufficiency and provides a safe, healthy environment
for children to grow and succeed. The New Castle County
Vo-Tech Adult Education Division embodies that philosophy.
