Recognizing Achievements!
Every year Goodwill recognizes extraordinary graduates,
volunteers, employees and community and business partners
at our Annual Awards Luncheon. Below are the inspiring
stories from the 2006 winners.
Rev. J.H. Beauchamp,
Volunteer of the Year
Lorraine Kinzey
“I’m very grateful to have such a neat place
to volunteer! I have a lot of fun and I love the work
that I do,” says Lorraine. For the past 20 years,
Lorraine has suffered from fibromyalgia - a condition
characterized by the widespread pain in muscles, ligaments,
and tendons, as well as fatigue and having multiple
tender points. Although Lorraine had to stop working
full-time due to her illness, she did continue her hobby
of selling items on consignment at local shops and hosting
yard sales. She would purchase items at local auctions,
including the now defunct Goodwill general auction.
An avid customer of the auction, Lorraine became aware
of Goodwill’s mission. Impressed with Goodwill’s
impact on the community, she decided to become a volunteer.
“I wanted to volunteer at a place where I could
utilize my talents. For years I worked as an office
manager, so when Theresa (manager of the car auction)
mentioned that she needed help in the office for the
car auction, I knew I found the right opportunity.”
Since 2004 Lorraine has been assisting in the office
for the car auction. Her duties include updating and
filing forms and assisting with paperwork. Lorraine
always brings home-made brownies or treats for the employees
of the car auction, so she is now known as the “Brownie
Lady.” The employees love having Lorraine volunteer
and she has truly become a part of the “Goodwill
Family.”
“I love volunteering. I love knowing that I’m
helping an organization that is giving so much back
to people in need in Delaware and Delaware County, Pennsylvania.
I hope to be volunteering for a long, long time!”
