Goodwill Offers Tax Prep Assistance to Low Income Residents

Goodwill of Delaware is again partnering with the Nehemiah Gateway Community Development Corporation to provide income tax preparation centers at Goodwill locations in Wilmington, Milford and Bridgeville. The tax prep centers are staffed by trained, IRS-certified volunteers to answer questions and ensure quality. This partnership is part of Nehemiah Gateway’s Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) campaign that provides financial services to residents of Delaware earning less than $50,000 in 2010 income. Created by Congress in 1975, the EITC provides a lump-sum cash refund to low-wage working individuals and families.

“We are pleased to working the Nehemiah Gateway organization to again provide this service to the community,” said Colleen Morrone, Goodwill’s chief mission officer. “This very successful six-year old program has assisted more than 66,000 hard-working Delaware residents, resulting in almost $950 million in refunds.By offering tax preparation assistance, along with the complete range of services and assistance that are part of our family strengthening initiative, Goodwill can continue to meet is mission of service to the residents of Delaware and Delaware County.”

Morrone also noted that other services offered by Nehemiah Gateway include money management workshops, free credit reports, and assistance in opening individual development or savings accounts or certificates of deposit with their tax refunds bolstered by the earned income tax credit.
