Goodwill Hosts Two Tax Prep Centers To Assist Low Income Residents

Goodwill is once again partnering with the Nehemiah Gateway Community Development Corporation to provide income tax preparation centers at two Goodwill locations. The tax prep centers, located in the Goodwill retail store in Milford and in the Lea Boulevard corporate headquarters in Wilmington, are staffed by trained, IRS-certified volunteers. Both centers are part of Nehemiah Gateway’s Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) campaign that provides financial services to residents of Delaware earning less than $45,000 in 2010 income.

“We are pleased to be again working with the Nehemiah Gateway organization to provide another valuable service to the citizens of Delaware,” said Colleen Morrone, chief mission officer for Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County. “By offering tax preparation assistance, along with the complete range of services and assistance that are part of our family strengthening initiative, Goodwill can continue to meet is mission of service to the residents of Delaware and Delaware County.”

Morrone noted other services offered by Nehemiah Gateway include money management workshops, free credit reports, and assistance in opening individual development or savings accounts or certificates of deposit with their tax refunds bolstered by the earned income tax credit.

The Goodwill tax preparation center located at 300 E. Lea Boulevard in the Edgemoor section of Wilmington is open on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. The tax preparation center at the Milford Goodwill store (694 North DuPont Highway, Route 113) is open Wednesday through Friday from 3 to 7 pm and on Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm. Each participant in the tax preparation program will also be given a coupon for 20 percent-off a future purchase at any Goodwill retail store.

For over 90 years, Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County’s mission has been to improve the quality of life for people with barriers to self-sufficiency through the Power of Work and has been supported by proceeds from retail sales and donations.
