Goodwill Opens New Recycling Center in New Castle

Goodwill’s new, state-of-the-art Recycling Center, which also includes a newly expanded outlet store, is open and attracting a great deal of attention from bargain-savvy shoppers. Covering 60,000 square feet and located at 400 Centerpoint Boulevard in New Castle, the Goodwill Recycling Center also includes new warehouse space, the online auction operation ( and will house a new online book selling operation later this year.

According to Goodwill CEO and President Ted Van Name, this new facility will enable Goodwill to better manage the flow of materials required for the growing organization while creating jobs and improving the “green-ness” of Goodwill with enhanced recycling.

“Goodwill has been a significant recycler in Delaware since1921 and recycled nearly 13 million tons of materials in 2011,” said Van Name. “We feel confident that the additional space and automated equipment will allow us tol reach our ultimate goal of sending zero product to the landfill. With our new facility we are now able to efficiently process clothing, glassware, plastics and metals as bales to be sold as scrap materials. Also, our partnership with Dell Computer allows us to safely recycle all components of non-working computers and related equipment."

"The Goodwill Recycling Center also serves our mission of improving lives through the "Power of Work. A total of 18 new jobs were created at the recycling center to manage the expanded operations, bringing the total to 49 team members working at the site," noted Van Name.

The new outlet store uses a per-pound pricing strategy where the unit price ($1.59 to $0.79) goes down based on the combined weight of items being purchased. Shoppers have their carts weighed at checkout for items such as clothing and wares. Glass and dishware are priced separately by weight. Items including furniture, electronics, books, CD’s and DVD’s are priced individually.

The new Goodwill outlet is open Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm and on Sunday from noon to 5 pm. More information about the new store can be found at
