Goodwill of Delaware & Delaware County to Host Job Fair, Highlight Goodwill Digital Career Accelerator®
October 9, 2019 – Wilmington, DE – On Thursday, October 17, Goodwill of Delaware & Delaware County, in partnership with the Delaware Department of Labor, will host a job fair featuring more than 30 employers hiring for entry level, mid-level and professional positions. The job fair will also highlight digital skills, introducing job seekers and employers to the Goodwill Digital Career Accelerator® a program funded by Google.org, with the objective of sharpening the digital skills of today’s workers and providing training that is specific to entry- and mid-level occupations.
“In alignment with our mission of removing barriers to self-sufficiency through the Power of Work, the Goodwill Digital Career Accelerator® supports individuals in developing marketable 21st century job skills,” said Colleen Morrone, President and CEO of Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County. “Through the Accelerator program, we’re able to provide Delaware employers a digitally literate workforce to fill certain entry- and mid-level jobs that require digital competency.”
The Accelerator program delivers five levels of digital skills, at no cost to participants. As people come through the program and learn the career progression and earning potential afforded by developing a digital skillset, they can earn digital badges and learn about certification and degree opportunities with Delaware’s existing vocational and technical schools, colleges and universities, in order to fill higher skill positions, ideally within Delaware.
Training and program partners for the October 17 job fair include the Delaware Department of Labor, the Delaware Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program, Code Differently, the NERDiT Foundation, and Ride Share.
Job seekers are encouraged to create a resume and cover letter using Goodwill’s free Career Connection, www.GoodwillDE.org/CareerConnection. They can also use Career Connection to develop a two-minute pitch/value statement and practice answering common interview questions. Candidates should dress for success, bring multiple copies of their resume and a form of personal identification, as onsite interviews will be available.
