Wilmington, DE, March 31, 2015 — Union Packaging, LLC, located in Yeadon, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, has been selected as the 2014 Goodwill Workforce Partnership Employer of the Year. The company will be formally recognized during Goodwill’s Annual Inspiration Awards Luncheon on Friday, May 8, 2015, at the Chase Center on the Riverfront.
Union Packaging, which provides earth-friendly paperboard packaging for the quick service restaurant and food service industry, is being recognized for its support of Goodwill’s Upper Darby Job Resource Center (JRC). Through a partnership with the JRC, Union Packaging has hired a number of employees who turned to Goodwill for assistance in finding employment.
“The partnership between Goodwill and Union Packaging has made a difference in the lives of many members of the local community,” said Allison David, Goodwill’s Vice-President of Mission Services. “Goodwill is pleased to be associated with Union Packaging, which has made a commitment to creating career opportunities in a diverse community such as Upper Darby. Their willingness to recruit, develop and retain talent from non-traditional sources like Goodwill reflects positively on the leadership of Union Packaging,” said David.
Union Packaging, under the direction of owner Mike Pearson, utilizes sustainable raw materials to create paperboard cartons in North American, the Caribbean and Latin America. In addition to the partnership with Goodwill, Union Packaging has worked to hire Philadelphia Public School graduates with learning differences and job-ready participants from the Philadelphia Prison System.
For over 94 years, Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County’s mission has been to improve the quality of life for people with barriers to self-sufficiency through the Power of Work. In 2014, Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County provided nearly 55,000 services to individuals throughout the region and helped 600 individuals connect to employment.
